PIECES OF ME - STOP THE HATE

Times like these are difficult. There are crisis everywhere; the siege in Marawi, the EJK brought upon by the war on drugs in our country. The displacement of Rohingyas in Myanmar. The calamities in US and South America. Mass shootings in US and other terror attacks in Europe to name a few. It's crazy. It's as if all the love in the world is gone and replace by hate. And the sad part is, people are dying.
I saw a recent post on twitter calling out a certain social media personality on how he sympathized with what was happening in another country. Some people are calling him out for, apparently, sympathizing with a foreign country but staying silent on issues in his own land. There was a slander of tweets mocking him, cursing him and throwing shade on what his work is, just because of one tweet. JUST BECAUSE OF ONE TWEET.
What I don't get is why people do this. Why make a big deal out of someone who just wants to express his thoughts or feelings? Why is there need to bring down someone just because you think your opinion is much better than his? Why should you ridicule a person for saying what he feels?
I did read some comments and kind of get the idea that they think he should be more outspoken of what was going on in his own country before others? Some are even saying that they should use their influence in voicing out their opinions regarding issues in our country.
This wasn't the first time a social figure has been called out for not speaking. Some beauty queens are being pitted against each other just because some have opted to keep silent. There are other public figures too who have been wrongfully called out for speaking about what they believed in.
Personally, I believe that as a public figure, or as someone people look up to, there is a social responsibility to be aware of what is happening. But I think it should not just be about your own country but also what is happening in the world. Public figures, have a wide range of audience and as such, voicing out on important matters would be favorable to whatever cause they are fighting for. But I also believe that every person has the right to choose on what he should fight for. And also, I believe that every person has to respect each others opinion or feelings.
Though, there is nothing wrong with choosing to be outspoken. I admire and applaud a lot of social media personalities and public figures who have used their influence, their audience, to share what they feel about certain issues in our country. Using your talents or gifts to spread goodness is, I believe, an act of nobility. Choosing to speak up, even if it means losing some people, is an act of bravery.
However, I don't think it is also right to insult or hate someone just because of what he supports or what issues he decides to speak about. I believe it is not right to force someone to be vocal about an issue that you yourself are passionate about. And more importantly, it is not right be vocal about an issue just to please others. I believe, people should speak out about issues they are wholeheartedly and honestly passionate about, not because people want them to speak about it.
What I am getting at here is this: there is enough disaster, crime, terrorism going on in the world. There is enough hate spreading through out the world. Why add more? A lot of people are suffering. And instead of spreading love and respect, we choose to spread hate.
Social media is a powerful tool. Let us not use it for all the wrong reasons.
We live in a sad time. I am worried of my childrens future.
ReplyDeleteYes these are sad times. But I believe we should always hope for a brighter future
Deletelife is tough.. and the keyboard warriors are on the rise... people should really reflect on themselves..
ReplyDeleteYes, there is enough hate in the world. People need to think first of what they post or share
DeleteAs bloggers, we also share the same responsibility to share the truth. At times, I see bloggers write for popularity hence just share whatever that is 'viral' , 'trending' and 'gossip' without first knowing its authenticity.
ReplyDeleteYes, I believe bloggers should be accountable for truth too.
DeleteWe are living in tumultuous times and it is scary to think what will happen in the future. We can only pray that there will be a lot less hate among mankind.
ReplyDeleteYes. The future looks scary right now but we must not lose hope
Deleteeveryone should be able to express their thoughts and feelings freely.. why the hate?!
ReplyDeleteExactly. The problem is everyone wants to express their own feeling but no one seems to be willing to listen to others
DeleteJust pray for peacefulness to everybody mind and heart. Stop the hate and spread the love!
ReplyDeleteYes. I really pray that everyone will find peacefulness in their hearts
DeleteTrue, don't add more pain when our country and people is still suffering. social media should use to spread a good thing rather create a war.
ReplyDeleteYes. social media is being used to spread hate. It's a beautiful tool that we could all use to spread love and kindness
DeleteAgree with you, different people have different prespective, we just got to respect each other and stop the hate.
ReplyDeleteSadly, respect is something some people seem to forget
DeleteEverything shud be used in moderation
ReplyDeleteSocial media? I agree but we should use it fully to spread goodness in the world
DeleteWe are now in the era where emotions of the humans are taking advantage by the capitalist to gain more $$$.
ReplyDeleteHate comments gain more hate, and more engagements and debate. In the social media algorithm the stronger your engagement (both negative and positive or combined) will give you a more standing in the crowd.
But if we stop using social media, you will see... It will be a relazing experience.
Welcome to the race :)
I think at this point in time, we cannot do without social media. But if we just use it for the right purposes.
DeleteI agree. No one can dissolved social media, not event its founders. What we can do is act responsibly and be wise on using it.
DeletePrecisely. We should always think before we click
DeleteThanks for the post and it reminds us to really beware of the safety on social media! Is important to identify and brings out the correct truth information as well.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. Sometimes we really need to be reminded to be aware of what is happening in the world
DeleteThis is such an intriguing post. We need to stop the hate and cover our hearts and soul with love and peace.
ReplyDeleteI agree
DeleteThanks for showing awareness that Hate has to stop! It's a good reminder.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
DeleteI have the exact same feeling. Why should we bring people down just because they don't think like we do? Sometimes there are no right or wrong... Respect is the key word.
ReplyDeleteyes. Respect is really the key.
DeleteYa you are right! Respect each other is very important, but not all people have this personality .
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately yes. Not all people show respect. We just have to take the high road
DeleteI agree we seem to live in a hate filled world where they just want to pick a bone and make someone a victim...
ReplyDeleteWhat is sad is that some people actually enjoy spreading hate and picking fights.
DeleteI totally feel you. I have no idea why there is so much argument and not discussions. It feels scary to even make an attempt to state your opinion.
ReplyDeleteWe should never be afraid to share our opinion. And yeah, it's a wonder why people nowadays tend to argue instead of discuss.
DeleteThere will always be hater no matter what we express on social media. Some people just don't understand the idea of don't say a word if you are not going to say anything nice.
ReplyDeleteI agree. Some people really have no respect for others. It's sad but it's the reality. But I hope in time, there would be change.
Deletewe cant control much on this. as long as we dont start the negative, then it wont just happen
ReplyDeleteRacheal
Unfortunately, there are people who enjoy starting fights on the internet.
DeleteWe all have a powerful tool such as social media, but if we are not educated to use it carefully, it can be a powerful weapon or disaster
ReplyDeleteI agree. Proper education on social media ethics is really needed
