In a post apocalyptic Earth, brought about by unknown creatures, a family of four struggles to survive. The world is run aground by blind creatures who hunt and kill what they hear. Any sound and they come running seconds later to kill. What a plot!
What was great about the movie is how they use natural sounds to amplify every emotion, every acting delivered by the actors. And frankly, it's not the creatures that were the nemesis in this movie, but everyday objects and people activities that could create sound and attract those humanoid monsters. Oh and did I mention the mom was about to give birth?
Emily Blunt is a goddess. She can dress like Queen Freya or dress as a surviving pregnant woman and still look gorgeous. But aside from her good looks, her acting is brilliant. Possibly due to the fact that she a real mom and that she is playing wife to her real husband? But still very brilliant.
John Krasinski is a marvel. Krasinksi's character here is a whole lot different from the character he plays (Jim) in the TV comedy The Office. His beard makes him unrecognizable and playing the role of the doting father who risks everything for his family to have a normal life despite the circumstances suits him well.
With that said, the two child actors who played children to Blunt and Krasinski are brilliant too. Noah Jupe played the younger brother, while Millicent Simmonds played the eldest daughter who is deaf. The two actors exhibit skills most actors nowadays don't have: depth. Watching this movie, you'd know they were into their characters. Especially Simmonds, who, like her character, is also deaf.
A Quiet Place is making its mark as a one of a kind thriller experience. It's wise use of sound (or lack of it) as a pivotal element intelling its story is something to remember.
