SILVER SCREEN - Hansel and Gretel Are All Grown Up!

Yes. The iconic brother and sister tandem of Hansel and Gretel are all grown up and are now witch bounty hunters. At least according to Tommy Wirkola's new movie. The siblings who defeated a witch by placing her inside an oven and burning her to death are back to save the lowly town of Augsburg from an evil witch. Little did they know that this mission hold a secret from their past. I watched this movie yesterday with my friend Arra Abella of Style | Reader and here is what I thought about it:

Hansel and Gretel:Witch hunters

Starring:
Jeremy Renner as Hansel
Gemma Arterton as Gretel
Famke Jannsen as Muriel
Pihla Viitala as Mina
Thomas Mann as Ben

Tommy Wirkola's version of the German fairy tale is a little bit breath of fresh air from other fairy tale adaptations that I have watched before. Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is somewhat a loopy and dark version of the fairy tale, the general feel of the movie was somewhat similar to Rupert Sanders' version of Snow White and the Huntsman and a tad bit too similar with Catherine Hardwick's Red Riding Hood.

But what is nice about the movie is that it's not too serious like Red Riding Hood or as twisted as Snow White and the Huntsman. Well, I think it was also kind of easy since nobody knew what happened to Hansel and Gretel after defeating the witch.

However, what I didn't quite like about the movie is the use of language. Yes, people before do curse but certainly not the way people curse now. The unauthenticity of the language kinda defeats the purpose of the setting.
