RUNWAY - Rainbow Connection

Rainbow Village in Taichung, Taiwan is one of the most beautiful places I have been to. Not just because of the colorful murals all around the area but also because of  the story of how the village came to be.

A few years ago, an old veteran named Huang Yung-Fu started to paint his old house, one of the last veteran houses in the village. Most of the houses in the village were bought by land developers. But Huang refused to sell his home for 37 years. He started to paint murals in his house and as well as his neighbors house until it was discovered by few university students. The students then started to campaign for the preservation of Huang's village and authorities agreed.

To this day, Huang Yung-Fu, or now known as "Rainbow Grandpa" still paints areas in the village or sometime just hangs around and greets tourists who visit his masterpiece.

Rainbow Village is a classic example of how art is a powerful tool and an integral part of society.
